The New New South

PROJECT: The New New South
DATE: Summer 2007
NOTES: In recent decades the southern United States has increasingly become
the preferred destination for new Mexican and Central American
migrants seeking employment in food processing and other industrial
labor markets. Latinos are now filling low-wage factory jobs in places
like North Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama and simultaneously changing
the social landscape of the rural south. This project documented the
material and symbolic manifestations of this “Latinization” of the
south.
